1. Equipment Rooms/Telecommunications Rooms/Network Enclosures/Data Center
a. Install equipment enclosures, patch panels, and equipment (network - LAN/SAN, server, storage, UPS, etc.) as directed.
b. Install grounding cables for equipment enclosures, equipment, and cable tray.
c. Install cable tray/raised floor cable tray and cable tray accessories.
2. Backbone Cabling
a. Install intra-building backbone cabling.
3. Horizontal Cabling
a. Install cable trays, J Hooks, and cable tray accessories.
b. Install horizontal cable.
c. Organize, form, and dress cable.
4. Work Area Outlets
a. Install work area outlets, face-plates, jacks, and patch cables.
b. Remove kick-plates and pedestals on cubicles to install network cabling.
5.Terminations
a. Terminate Category 3, 5e, 6, and 6a UTP cable on patch panels and modular plugs.
b. Terminate 62.5-micron multimode fiber, 50-micron multimode fiber, and single mode fiber using ST, SC, and LC connectors using the anaerobic adhesive system and Corning UniCam system.
6. Operations/Troubleshooting
a. Complete work orders as directed..
b. Diagnose and correct copper cable and fiber optic cable problems.
c. Replace failed equipment and install new equipment as directed.
d. Groom network enclosures and equipment as directed.
7.Testing
a. Perform certification testing of Category 3, 5e, 6, and 6a UTP cable, multimode and single-mode fiber cables (ST, SC, and LC), and coaxial cables.
8. Administrative Tasks
a. Complete network trouble tickets as directed.
b. Document test results as directed.
c. Inventory material as directed.
d. Document configuration/control of copper and fiber patch panels. and physical locations of copper and fiber optic cables as directed by Buyer.
e. Label and document network equipment, cable paths, network rooms and cabinets as directed by the buyer.
Clearance Required:
Education/Experience:
1. Minimum of five years’ experience in network technician work.
2. Qualified in the installation, termination, and certification testing of Category 3, 5e, 6, and 6a unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable, multimode and single-mode fiber cable (ST, SC, and LC), and coaxial cables.
3. Poficient with Fluke DSX-8000 copper/fiber tester and Fluke OFP-100-QI OptiFiber Pro Optical Time Domain Reflectometer.
4. Capable of properly troubleshooting the physical network.
5. Remain current on industry and manufacturer best practices, standards, and codes.
6. Knowledgeable in the application of the following structured cable standards and codes:
a.ANSI/TIA/EIA 568-B
b.ANSI/TIA/EIA 569
c.ANSI/TIA/EIA 606
d.ANSI/TIA/EIA 607
e.NFPA 70
